ECDTV: F-Word Conversation with James Roberts, Chief Digital Officer, Wellington Cty Council.
Our first episode is with James Roberts. This was an amazing conversation where we learned about how he's used The ECD to set the culture of a new team as they've navigated the delivery of a digital transformation programme. "It's incredibly effective and powerful in the change it can influence and it's so easy to use and so accessible and because of that kind of a little bit of gamification around the card deck."

1 ECD Prototype
Activity
Have a play with this new ECD check-in activity in your next team meeting or 1:1. It goes a little something like this…
1. Take the black and white ECD feelings cards and flip them over so you can't see the words.
2. Randomly select two cards (one black & one white)
3. Flip them over to reveal the feelings and share a story about the last time you experienced them at work and what you learned from those experiences.
We call this activity – ECD Wild Card.

2 Pieces of Content To Inspire
Here are two bits of content that I hope will help you see the world in a slightly different way. To provoke you to do the work that matters to humanise the workplace. Hope you enjoy.

The emotions we want to feel don’t just shape our everyday lives and choices; they also shape us as a society and how we think about mental health in our different cultures. The way we diagnose and treat people—how problematic we view their anger or sadness, how we design programs or therapy to help them feel “good”—are all based on assumptions about which feelings are good and which are bad, and how much of any of them is normal...

2. Managing your ECD fears and how to overcome them – Steve Hargreaves & Lotty Roberts
Lotty and Steve discuss the things they feel fearful about when introducing and using the ECD in workshops and how can we manage these fears and regulate our responses to them.
They acknowledged that fears are normal, natural, powerful and a basic human emotion. Fear alerts us to the presence of danger or the threat of harm, whether that danger is physical or psychological and whilst fear can stem from real threats, it.. can also originate from imagined dangers that never come to pass.

Culture Eats Strategy for Breakfast
– Denise Hartley-Wilkins
At a time of the ‘Great Resignation’ or ‘Great Reset’, people are thinking about what matters most to them in their work and life. Organisations are experiencing people churn. Key talent is being lured away by soaring salaries. The trouble is people are only motivated by pay at the attraction stage. What keeps people in their organisations is the quality of their experience. Bottom line, what it’s like to work there. Culture is more than just values...

The last 2 years have taught me... Everyone is out for the same thing
– Kayleigh Woodings
Everyone wants to be 'Appreciated' and 'Supported'. But no one has ever taken the time to think about what that means to them, define it, flesh it out, put some meat on their 'appreciated' and 'supported' bones...

Why emotions matter in the workplace
– Anna Clayton
If you feel sad how do you behave? Maybe you are unusually quiet, maybe you remove yourself from others to be alone, maybe you cry. What if you are happy, how would you behave? Maybe you laugh, maybe you become animated, maybe you feel comfortable to express yourself to others. Feelings like 'happy' or 'sad' are the primary colours of emotion. What if you felt appreciated, or courageous, or insecure, or inferior? How would you behave then? And what if you felt these feelings at work, would you behave differently?

Something I've been pondering...
Be cautious of the person who makes more statements than they ask questions.
